To ensure that Cycle Superhighways, meet the common principles and recommended standards for design and infrastructure solutions to the extend it’s possible, the Cycle Superhighway Collaboration in the Capital Region has developed a tool for this purpose.
The route assessment tool is designed to assess the level to which a cycle route meets the recommended standards for the design of super cycle paths, as described in the Concept for Cycle Superhighways. This means that all assessments calculated by the tool are based on the recommendations that are already described in the following sections of the Cycle Superhighway Concept:
The tool has been approved by the Cycle Superhigway Collaboration for use in the assessment of planned, future and existing cycle superhigways.
As a minimum, the tool follows the official road rules and current executive orders and can therefore also be used to assess other cycle paths to assess the extent to which the conditions on a stretch prioritize cyclists.
The tool can be used for…
… Screening of planned and future cycle superhighways
The tool can be used in the screening process of planned and future cycle superhighways. In this case, the tool can help identifying the themes related to ‘design and build’ that should be considered to improve within the process of establishing the cycle superhighway.
… Designation of potential for improvements on existing cycle superhighways
Advantageously, the tool can be used for existing cycle superhighway. Here, the tool can help to identify improvement potentials that can be considered for upgrade projects on a cycle superhighway.
